John is a biologist who is interested in dragonflies. He is out in the field collecting data on the distribution of
Epitheca costalis.
Roxie is out bird watching. She is hoping to photograph a Ruby-throated Hummingbird. According to the latest flight season data,
she should be able to spot one.
With the click of a button on their Google Android powered handsets, they take photos, capture latitude-longitude coordinates, record elevation data,
and jot down observations about the species they see in the field.
When they need help identifying a species, they just pull up an electronic field guide.
As they are collecting, they send their data back to a central server where it is mapped, vetted, and shared with the world.
Together these citizen scientists will collaboratively build the world's largest online database of species information.
